RESEARCH BRIEF: Summary of CAHSEE Policy Study Findings Related to SFUSD
Professor Sean Reardon and his team of researchers including Allison Atteberry and Nicole Arshan worked closely with the Research, Planning, and Accountability Department at SFUSD to write up a two-page research brief on their findings from a study of the CAHSEE in SFUSD. The relevant findings include:

  • SFUSD students’ 8th grade ELA CST provides some indication of whether students will pass both sections of the CAHSEE.
  • There is considerable variation among SFUSD high schools in the eventual passing rates among students who initially fail the CAHSEE.
  • The CAHSEE requirement has had a negative effect on Graduation Rates in SFUSD for low achieving students.
  • The CAHSEE requirement had a disproportionately large negative effect on graduation rates among low-achieving female students in SFUSD.
